WHAT’S INSIDE THE JULY/AUGUST ISSUE

24 June 2024

Take a look at the featured highlights from Issue 309!

THE COVER STARS! – 10-SECOND SEQUENTIAL RX7 + BAGGED WW2-THEMED EVO VIII

Arguably NZ’s most recognisable EVO and its RX-7 garage-mate roam the Auckland streets with a distinctive golden touch

Ornamental Frogs!!! Thanks to Tina, chances are you recognise at least half of this month’s cover duo. Yes, it is that car, and no, the owner has absolutely no regrets about being part of a TV campaign. If you have attended any event in the past few years, chances are you’ll also recognise its garage-mate RX-7 and may have made the link between the distinctive gold themes.

CANDY CRUSH – 650KW RB32 R34 SKYLINE

Another beast to roll out the doors of Hi-Power Performance — an eye-catching candy-red R34, packing a monstrous 650kW RB32. This street-sweeping sedan means serious business and is primed to leave its mark on New Zealand roads

Kaleb, a 25-year-old Aucklander (yes, you read that right), entrusted his R34 to the wizards Ethan Lowe and Duane Huxtable to work their magic. After multiple engines, gearboxes, and revisions, the project is finally complete, resulting in a lethal street weapon.

PISSING OFF THE PURISTS: A SUPRA DONE RIGHT – 459KW WIDE AND WICKED SUPRA

In an age where JDM icons are being hidden away wrapped in cotton wool, Cody Hamilton just wants to cut them up, widebody them and then thrash them on track!

As you can see, this Supra is one that has no middle ground; it has been built to be hammered on and is a product of that good ol’ Kiwi ingenuity and ‘can do’ attitude.

PRISTINE, POTENT AND … PERFECT! BENSON & HEDGES FORD SIERRA COSWORTH RS500

Screaming around a race track in a historic bit of hardware is a habit that typifies true commitment. It’s a commitment to a past era, of doing things a little bit old school and revelling in that experience while keeping it alive for the present generation. It’s a pursuit that this immaculate Benson & Hedges Sierra RS500 embodies with every micron of its vibrant silhouette

Now in the care of Tauranga racing personality Andy Greenslade, the story of this specific RS500 really begins as Group A racing was starting to heat up across the ditch, and with the demise of the JPS BMW team in 1987 — despite winning that year’s championship against the increasing might of the turbocharged opposition.

A CHOICE WEEKEND – DRIFTWARS & AUTO ATSUMARU 2024
Drift Kings and JDM Legends meet for a weekend to remember at Taupo Motorsport Park

When it comes to Choice Events, Taupo Motorsport Park is the place to fill your automotive excitement cup, and in early May, that’s exactly what they did with a thrilling three-day spectacle. The event began with Driftwars, an intense two-day drift competition on Friday and Saturday, and a celebration of all those JDM vehicles on the Sunday with Auto Atsumaru.

DIAMONDS’ DAY OUT – MITSUBISHI OWNERS DAY 2024

Mitsubishi Owners Day serves up its annual mix of triple diamond delights

While many of us can look back at our automotive past, recognising points in time when we had the wrong car, Wellington’s Steve Kerr is one of the lucky few who takes a different view.

BLAST FROM THE PAST – JONAH LOMU’S FUSION SPL WAGON

When All Black legend Jonah Lomu wasn’t scoring tries, he was busy moving the car audio goalposts

Only a handful of people know how the story of Jonah Lomu and his Nissan Patrol started. Back in the early 2000s, he was well-known as a rugby player but lesser known as a car guy. However, those who knew him before fame and stardom took over will tell you he was always a car guy and most definitely a car audio guy.
