THE COVER STAR! — LINCOLN WHIDDETT’S 20B TURBO THREE-ROTOR S14
The MADLAB has built some of the world’s most iconic drift cars. But perhaps its most exciting project yet has nothing to do with crazy horsepower figures or wide-body kits. It’s the eighteen-year-old behind the wheel of this 20B turbo Rocket Bunny S14.
Yes, he was raised in the orbit of one of the most iconic motorsport careers New Zealand has ever produced. But what’s unfolding now, a 20B turbo Rocket Bunny S14, a top-16 finish at Mad Mike’s Summer Bash in only his second drive of the year, and talent behind the wheel well beyond his years, that’s Linc’s very own story. It just so happens to be a bloody good one.
SEVEN YEARS, ONE VISION — BLITZIN’ RX-2
Seven years of setbacks, sacrifices and stubborn persistence created this jet-black RX-2, and Jason Steiner still drives it like it was meant to be driven.
Some people stumble into cars later in life. For Jason Steiner, it was baked in from the start. Growing up in rural Morrinsville, cars were never just means of transportation in his family. Jason’s dad and brothers raced speedway, and his old man was the sort of hands-on fixer who tackled anything himself, whether it was farm machinery, broken engines, or the half-destroyed cars his kids dragged home. That attitude rubbed off early, and Jason found himself drawn to the process as much as the result. Tinkering, fixing, learning, cars were simply part of his life.
ACCIDENTAL HERO — RESTORED TO PERFECTION DATSUN 1200 COUPE
Not all trophy-snatching show cars are built with filling up the pool room in mind. Some are built to be driven, and crafted simply to the owners taste and skillset. When they turn up to one of the most storied classic car exhibitions on Kiwi shores, you can be certain it’s something special. This 1973 Datsun 1200 coupe is one such car – an accidental prize pony crafted with vision and good old fashioned grind.
After sitting down and chewing the fat with Derek Haggerty, owner of this gleaming candy-toned Datsun 1200 coupe, the origin story of the precision approach to the finer details becomes apparent.
NO SHORTCUTS — ADAM LZ’S QUAD ROTOR SUPRA
Shipping a six-figure four-rotor Supra halfway across the globe isn’t for the faint of heart. After years of building trust in the pits, the crew at Choice Events finally pulled off the ultimate mission of bringing a global icon to our shores for the local scene to experience in the flesh.
Adam LZ gets more invites to headline international events than most promoters send in a career, but the reality is he turns almost all of them down. He’s been in the scene long enough to know what’s worth the commitment and can spot a “she’ll be right” operation versus a world-class event from a mile away. So, when Adam gave Guy and Steph from Choice Events the thumbs up to ship his insane four-rotor Supra all the way to NZ for REunion 2026, it was a massive call.
TOYOTA GR FESTIVAL 2026
The Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival returns to Hampton Downs for its 13th instalment. A celebration of the world’s biggest car brand past and present, and a clear “thanks” to the loyalty of Kiwi Toyota fans, it’s a solid argument for why Toyota just might be the best car maker on the planet right now if you’re into more than just going from A to B.
