They’ve done it! Tim Slade, behind the wheel of the MCA Suspension Nissan Silvia, has taken out the 2016 Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge with a fastest time of 1:22.1920. This car is an absolute machine, and it was a spectacular sight to see it complete such a fast lap. We’re hoping Tim Slade is hooked on the world of time attack, as he’s a real asset as a one-perfect-lap driver.
Under Suzuki, who was placed second in his Nissan Silvia S15, got bumped to third place by the RP-968 Porsche driven by Barton Mawer who ran a 1:23.03 in the final shootout for the day. The team has worked hard to get to this point, so it was great seeing them so close to the win.
After fighting to the absolute death for a faster lap time, Under Suzuki placed third. Unfortunately, Suzuki could only manage a 1:23.131, which was off the pace, but still much faster than last year. It was a very sad moment for the fans, as Under Suzuki in the Yokohama S15 was certainly the favourite — heck, I even bought a team T-shirt! Under Suzuki is an amateur running in a Pro class with paid drivers, so even a second place finish is more than impressive. No doubt he’ll be back next year for another crack at the title.
