4&Rotary Nationals: downtown invasion — imports run the streets once more

2 February 2016

“It’s been almost 10 years since there was a cruise into the city after the V 4&Rotary Nationals show and shine, but with more than 600 cars out and about, it certainly made a solid comeback!”

When we first heard about the proposed cruise into the city, we were jumping with joy. Partly because of the pandemonium this may cause down town — as it did back in the day — but mostly because we were excited to see this many imports all together, getting driven, parked up, and admired, albeit a touch on the wrong side of the law.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing though, as the initial Quay Street meeting ground proved much too small for the large number of vehicles, which ultimately fizzled the evening as cars split up and made their way to their favourite, and more local, meeting grounds. Some went to Mission Bay, some stuck in the city, and those who had the free app to discuss the event together will know that hundreds went out to Westgate — saaaaaauce!

We did hear that FATRX3 would make it out for a cruise, however we didn’t see it. We did however get to a few spots here and there to snap a couple of pics. Just out on the main road at the Quay Street spot, there were literally hundreds of vehicles lined up either side. It gave everyone the chance to cut a few laps and show off their show vehicles.

The proposed cruise was meant to take place up Queen Street, but as you can see here it was hardly bumper to bumper, as most cars did not leave the meeting points.

Justin Pillay’s Honda Integra was looking flawless …

As was Nigel James’ Toyota Chaser JZX100 …

I even spotted a Mitsubishi GTO out in the wild, not a common sight I can assure you.

There was even the odd Lamborghini out and about cruising the streets, no doubt crushing the dreams of a few imports along the way, or even the other way around considering what we saw being driven.

Unfortunately, the cruise didn’t go to plan, but what did was getting that many imports into town for an invasion. Nice work Azhar and the 4&Rotary team.
