For me personally the first set of announcements for the 2016 Leadfoot Festival really got me excited about the calibre of machines heading to Haihei to attack Rod Millen’s driveway. Of the announcements it was the 1988 Pikes Peak record holder — the Peugot 405 T16 — that sparked the fanboy in me.
It can be seen here running at the Goodwood Festival in 2014, driven by its new owner Enda Garvey, however it’s very likely that, like me, the first time you all laid eyes on it was on YouTube watching Jean Louis Mourey’s famous film Climb Dance.
Check out the remastered version and tell me that its not completely badass. Special note for the one-handed action with the other hand stopping the sun’s glare. The record in 1998? 10mins 47.77s. The car never returned to Pikes Peak after setting the record.
This is certainly one car we are keen to take a closer look at on February 12–14. Oh and to make things even sweeter, Enda is also bringing his genuine Group B Audi Quattro along.
