The record breaking lap was claimed by the Toyota TS050 Hybrid, driven by Japan’s Kamui Kobayash, on its first lap out of the pits after a red flag period. In part thanks to next to no traffic, the ex-Formula 1 driver managed to set a 3m 14.791s flyer.
That’s 2.096s up on the 2015 lap record of Neel Jani (on the current configuration of the Circuit de la Sarthe).
Kobayash scored the team pole position for the race, eventually finishing 9th overall, with the Porsche 919 Hybrid taking out the top spot.
