“Seeing as the 2016 V 4&Rotary South Island Champs entries are now open, we thought we’d take a look back at last year’s standouts”
It was the first time we got to lay eyes on the cover car of the September 2016 issue of NZ Performance Car (Issue No. 237); Alex MacAskill’s AVGAS-drinking 1977 Toyota Corolla SR coupe. At this stage it was three years into the build, and since then the car has changed a fair bit to what you will find in the September issue.
We won’t go into the story too much, you can get that in the mag, but a car painter by trade, Alex spent countless hours perfecting the panel work and custom orange paint. It’s a far cry from the primed shell he began with.
Alex managed to take out Best Piston Conversion and the Build Encouragement award at the 2015 event. We have been waiting since then for the circuit racer to be completed, which it now is. Grab a copy of the September 2016 issue of NZ Performance Car (Issue No. 237), to see the finished product.
