If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it — that’s why the formula for Beach Hop has never really changed that much over the years. But that doesn’t mean you can’t add to it, which is exactly what happened with Repco Beach Hop 16, held over March 29–April 3, as the event began a day early on the Tuesday, featuring an additional day of festivities at Whitianga.
The 150-odd cars that turned up were slightly more than the team of organizers were planning for; they would have been happy with a few dozen! It does at least show that such a day is a welcome addition to the automotive marathon that is Beach Hop, especially as the weather behaved itself, the day ran like clockwork, and everyone left satisfied.
We’ll have full coverage in our NZV8 Beach Hop Annual 2016, which will be out in mid May — or you can pre-order a copy here.
