Your corporate leaders are wanting to make an impact within a sea of trucks, utes, and SUVs at SEMA 2016, held November 1–4 in Las Vegas. You’re a brand that doesn’t spend too much time in the realms of the extraordinary, but SEMA and the people attending demand it. So what do you do?
We can just imagine how this concept went down at the Toyota board meeting.
“Alright, we’re going to take the vehicle we have on our current production line that is the furthest from being a performance car, throw two turbochargers on it, and try to crack 324kph.” Right. Toyota, you crazy.
Behold, the Land Cruiser Speed Cruiser, Toyota’s most insane build for SEMA. It’s a late-model Land Cruiser that has been dropped, had aero added for top-speed attempts, a fully built V8 twin-turbo engine, and gloss-black paint. Just like a Veyron or similar. The result is mad: 2000hp at the engine with ease, and if you look closely you’ll notice carbon-kevlar intakes, and more beautiful carbon goodies no doubt produced by Toyota carbon specialists.
So what does 2000hp, a V8 engine, two turbos, and a low ride height give you in a Land Cruiser? 354kph! With that front air dam and rear diffuser, it looks like they’ve thought about the design too …
