It’s warm, and I’ve seen kangaroos and a wallaby. It most certainly is Australia, and it most certainly is the first day of the Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC). We’re thanking the car gods (yes the same ones from The Fast and the Furious) that it isn’t around 40 degrees this year, but rather in the mid 20s. There are several cars here that weren’t here yesterday, so we thought we’d send you a midday update.
First of all, wow. The Sutton Brothers Nissan Silvia is impeccably clean, so clean in fact that we could almost have had our lunch off it. We didn’t see it at the test day on October 13, so we thought we’d take a closer look.
Running a highly modified SR20, it looks like it’ll be quick. We haven’t had a chance to get times, as they’re yet to be updated. Being in the same pit garage as Under Suzuki, the Silvia does look a little small, but beautiful nonetheless.
Out on track, it looked incredible. I’m going to call it early and say that this is the best-looking car at WTAC.
The absolutely mental RP968 Porsche has been out in full force, and managed to lay down a 1:25.03, which is scary fast considering it’s the first session of the day. With the setup dialled in, the team are hoping for low 24s.
With its shirt off, you can see why it’s such a potent machine. After yesterday’s mishap with the bonnet flying off, the team worked hard to get it out on track this morning.
Kiwi Kat Benson of Kat Benson Racing had a problem on her hands yesterday when the front splitter broke in half. With some Kiwi ingenuity, the team pieced it back together and she was back out on track in no time. Kat’s running in the low 1:40s today, and is giving the lads a run for their money in similar vehicles.
