Video: Touring Car Championship biffo — 1994 style

2 June 2015

The year of 1994 saw the birth of what we know today as the V8 Supercars, when the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) split, with ATCC — a Ford verses Holden battle (V8 Supercars) — and the two-litre SuperTourers going their separate ways, forming the Australian Super Touring Championship (ASTC).

Unlike today where the top teams are all in the one series; top teams and drivers were divided between the two championships making for thrilling action; more so in the ASTC if you ask me.

Teammates at the time, Tony Longhurst and Paul Morris, both driving BMW E36 318is, were locked into a battle all season long, so tempers were sure to boil over at some point; although no one expected it to go down like it did at Winton. Not that this stopped Longhurst going on to take the championship that year.
