Father vs son battle at 2016 Leadfoot Festival

3 December 2015

The 2016 Leadfoot Festival updates are just getting better! Last week it was announced that Kiwi-born US IndyCar driver Scott Dixon would be racing a 1906 Darracq up Rod Millen’s mile-long driveway — something we can’t wait to see.

It’s just been announced that the 2016 Leadfoot Festival, being held over Waitangi weekend (February 6–7), will also play host to the greatest father-son battle since Luke Skywalker fought Darth Vader — Rhys Millen will race his dad, Rod Millen, for the ‘King of Millen Mountain’ title. Rod and Rhys were regular adversaries at the Pikes Peak hill-climb challenge, and Rhys has always wanted to beat his father on his own Hahei driveway.

Rhys will be driving his Red Bull Global Rally Cross (GRC) Hyundai Veloster — pumping 585 turbocharged horses to all four wheels — in which he won the inaugural 2014 Red Bull GRC event at Daytona Speedway, and the 2014 Red Bull GRC Los Angeles event.

Take a look at this awesome GoPro footage of Rhys cutting some laps in the Hyundai:
