Big prizes and grudge racing — see it all at Dash for Cash

27 January 2015

The eagerly awaited Meremere Dragway All Out Dash for Cash is approaching fast, with drag racers burning the midnight oil to better their chances of winning some cash.

Scheduled to take place on February 7 (rain date February 8), the event runs a unique format — competitor entry is $100 and for each round a competitor wins they receive prize money of $100 on the return road. They can then buy back in for $50 to progress to the next round, meaning that two wins will cover the entry cost.

The final prize pool will be determined by how many racers are entered in that class; the more entrants in a class, the bigger the prize pool, so telling your slow mates to come down will increase your chances of winning big. For round losers, grudge racing will also be available.

Keeping everything fair, the racing is run on a DYO (Dial your own) format where consistency is key, and is divided into four classes: cars 10.99 and quicker, cars 11.00 and slower, bikes 10.99 and quicker, and bikes 11.00 and slower.

Entry is $20 for spectators at the gate, or $100 for racers. Gates at Meremere Dragway open at 9am with racing starting at 11am.
