Boating has always been a Kiwi favourite. When you chuck that other Kiwi favourite, the V8 engine, in one, what do you get? Answer: V8 Jetsprint boats, and they’re set to power into Mt Maunganui’s ASB Stadium next year, after drawing crowds of more than 15,000 earlier this year.
Enzed Stadium Jetsprints is a two-day event held over the Auckland Anniversary weekend, promising 14 hours of high-octane racing and entertainment. As many as 60 teams will compete in three classes over the two days in boats capable of reaching speeds beyond 125kph, and a 0–100kph sprint in 1.8 seconds, all without brakes. As the last event proved, it is not just for the petrolheads as it’s a weekend of full-on family entertainment. The thrills and spills extend beyond the track with a dedicated Kidzone with bouncy castles and waterslides. The pits area will be open for a limited session to allow you to check out the boats and meet race teams first-hand.
If you buy your early-bird tickets before this Sunday (November 30) you’ll not only save $10 on gate-sale prices, but also go in to win a money-can’t-buy prize: a hotlap in one of the boats and a weekend gold pass for two to the event. See Eventfinder for more info and terms and conditions.
